Welcome to the realm of the reasonably priced washing machine!
Yep, that’s where Beko as a brand sits, comfortably so, too, being the number one large home appliance brand in the UK and the second largest in Western Europe – not bad since its products have only been available over here since 1990. The UK and Ireland subsidiary of Turkey’s Arçelik (yes, that’s pronounced as you think) A.Ş., that in turn being the consumer durables sector of Koç Holding (also pronounced as you think), Beko were famed firstly in this patch of the planet for its refrigerators, later launching its washing machines in this sceptred isle and solidifying its position as numero uno.
So, when it comes to the best of Beko’s clothes cleansing range, how do you choose? Well, given that the vast bulk of the 31model spinning span is largely freestanding, I’ve picked the crème de la crème based on small, medium and large drum capacity, energy efficiency and RPM, in a kind of Bronze, Silver and Gold of the freestanders, and also looked at the absolute elite example amongst Beko’s integrated options.
All imbued with Beko’s prodigious cleaning powers, experienced through 15 all-encompassing programmes apiece, if you’re after a feature-full washing machine that’ll see you and your family looking and smelling their best for the next 7 to 12 years, and for under £500, Beko’s the brand for you…

Beko b300 BM3WT3741W

Best for: small capacity
For those with a household on the smaller side looking to keep costs down as low as a limbo dancer laid up with lumbago, look no further than the b300 BM3WT3741W. One of four 7kg capacity watery Spinderella’s Beko produces, it has been plucked forth to the fore here due to its superior 1400rpm (revolutions per minute) maximum spin speed, variable spin speed selector, variable temperature selection, 24-hour time delay, time remaining display, automatic unbalanced load control, and rinse hold, and all the very important “spec” that it retails for just £249, which is cheap as chips, particularly considering the current global shortage of the very computer chips needed to run washing machines.
Rated ‘B’ for energy efficiency, the baby Beko will also cost far less on electricity in the long run, so there’s more savings to be had on that side too. And with some 15 distinct covering Cottons, Eco 40-60, Synthetics, Cottons with Prewash, Mini/Mini14, Delicates/Wool/HandWash, MixedFabrics, Spin+Drain, Rinse, Drum Clean, 20°C, Shirts, Anti-Allergy, CoolClean, and StainExpert. The latter comes unique to Beko machines, being a very tidy bit of tech that targets 24 different types of stains, keeping you clean no matter how much of a mucky pup you are.
With a ProSmart Inverter Motor doing the physical work, the b300 also benefits from a running noise level of just 79dB, a more efficient performance, which is why it gets that ‘B’ rating, and endures less wear and tear to last longer.
Finally, with a child lock to keep prying fingers safely at bay, the Beko b300 BM3WT3741W may be small, but it is feature-packed and perfectly formed.
- Energy efficiency class: ‘B’
- Type: Freestanding
- Washing capacity: 7kg
- Noise spinning level: 79dB
- Spin speed: 1400rpm

Beko IronFast RecycledTub B3W5961IW

Best for: medium capacity
Stepping up the tub capacity to a more medium household suited 9kg is the IronFast RecycleTub B3W5961IW, a machine that offers class ‘A’ energy efficiency to help save the pennies and pounds over the years to come, while also sporting a pleasing price tag that roots itself resolutely under the £500 mark.
As the name might suggest, this is one of Beko’s RecycledTub models, which, if not obvious, means that recycled plastic bottles are used in the manufacture of the tub, up to 10 per cent in fact, so not only is leading class when it comes to energy saving, by the time you buy it you’ve already helped the poor planet. Then when it comes to the second interesting section of this medium Beko’s moniker, IronFast, refers to the cunningly controlled system of steam, spins cycles and water temperature it employs to leave clothes less creased and therefore faster to iron after the cleansing fact, a real plus-point for those of us who hate pushing a hot sole plate around with a passion.
Revving at up to 1600 rpm for a truly epic spin, the B3W5961IW still manages to remain quite quiet at 71dB, while programme options are an embarrassment of riches, featuring the fabric fantastic 15 of Cottons, Eco 40-60, Synthetics, Quick/Super Quick, HandWash, DarkCare, Download Cycle, Spin+Drain, Rinse, Sports, StainExpert, Anti-Allergy, Duvet/DownWear, Shirts, and SteamTherapy.
Add in Bluetooth remote control over your smartphone and the HomeWhiz app for the ultimate in cleaning convenience, variable spin speed selection, variable temperature selection, time remaining display, automatic unbalanced load control, 24-hour time delay, rinse hold, and a child lock to keep all that stuff from being mis-manipulated by small, sticky hands, and if you are a medium-sized family in the market for a medium-sized machine, the B3W5961IW practically sells itself.
- Energy efficiency class: ‘A’
- Type: Freestanding
- Washing capacity: 9kg
- Noise spinning level: 71dB
- Spin speed: 1600rpm
- Number of programmes: 15
- Dimensions: 845 x 600 x 580mm (H x W x D)
Beko RecycledTub Pro AquaTech B5W1241AW

Best for: large capacity
Maybe there are a lot of you. Maybe there isn’t, but the few of you that there are, are all monstrous stain-magnets. Or maybe it’s some savage combination of the two wherein there are loads of you in the household and each and every one of you ends the day by looking like you’ve been rolling in something down the park. In any of these scenarios, you’re going to need a large capacity washing machine, and from the Beko range, I reckon you can’t do better than the Pro AquaTech B5W1241aW – the machine for blitzing the bejesus out of stains of all shapes, sizes and sorts.
So, rated ‘A’ for energy efficiency, here you find a yawning maw of some 12kg, meaning you can load up to your heart’s/house’s content, prior to plunging into the 15 programmes it has on offer, which are: Anti-Allergy, Cottons, Darkwash/jeans, Download cycle, Duvet/Downwear, Eco 40-60, Quick/Super quick, Rinse, Shirts, Spin+Drain, Sports, StainExpert, Steam therapy, Synthetics, and Wool/handwash, so pretty all-encompassing when it comes to the average family, unless one member dresses solely in cashmere, silk, leather and suede, of course.
Featuring a maximum spin speed of 1400rpm, the B5W1241AW has some oomph, while it adds to its energy green credentials by also being a RecycledTub model, meaning it too is 10 per cent former plastic bottles, so your purchase saves sea life.
As above, IronFast comes as standard to save you getting bored at the board, as is the usual (at this point) suspects of a time remaining display, automatic half load, automatic unbalanced load control, variable spin speed selection, variable temperature selection, 24-hour time delay, rinse hold, and child lock. But now also with the addition of an interior light, the ‘AquaTech’ of the name, which uses water power rather than jerky drum movements to treat your laundry as gently as an aquatic lamb, and Bluetooth connection through the HomeWhiz app for mastery over your machine wherever you are.
A mighty machine that’s capable of cleaning up the clothes of a veritable cluster of even the clumsiest of crowds, the Beko B5W1241AW goes big in all ways, but still manages to keep the cost of ownership under a monkey.
- Energy efficiency class: ‘A’
- Type: Freestanding
- Washing capacity: 12kg
- Noise spinning level: 77dB
- Spin speed: 1400rpm
- Number of programmes: 15
- Dimensions: 845 x 600 x 630mm (H x W x D)

As promised, to end on, we come to Beko’s best of class when it comes to integrated options (or, at least, the model I anoint): the RecycledTub WTIK86151F.
For those who relish having a hard working washing machine to hand, but don’t want to ruin the aesthetic line of their designer kitchen, this surprisingly sub-£500 built-in comes with all the Beko bells and whistles you could need for your wash, while shying away from the laundry limelight behind the camouflage of a matching kitchen cabinet door.
